26th April - Perth
Yesterday was annoying as the forecast rain didn’t arrive until immediately after Piton Pete race had finished.
As I said before he ran the trip and track were too sharp for him on good ground but he gained some more valuable jumping experience and he flew at the finish to claim fourth, he’s fine post race.
He will now be let down ready to go on his holidays and hopefully next winter he will manage to get his favoured heavy ground on a more regular basis.
Two runners today at Perth.
3.15pm Got Away runs in a mares conditions chase over 3m.
Gloria has finally managed to get some consistency to her form and it will be nice for her to be back running against her own sex again.
She was unlucky at Cheltenham last time out to meet a formerly decent horse in Mister Whittaker who was reenergised wearing first time cheek pieces.
Only beaten a neck, it was a very good run especially when we know she wants softer ground.
Gloria is a lovely big mare, she’s got a wonderful laid back attitude and she has plenty of ability.
4.15pm Westreet runs in a handicap chase over 3m 6f.
Harry Beswick gave Westreet the most unbelievable ride last time out to get up on the line and win by a short head after a four mile race, it was lovely for his owners who have had to be very patient over the last couple of seasons due to injuries.
The ground and the trip were perfect for him on that occasion and hopefully he will encounter the same ground today, he and Piton Pete are both by Westerner and both love heavy ground.
Westreet is a sweet horse, he can worry at times and loves routine which is similar to Piton Pete and I do think it’s a Westerner thing, they are generally very straightforward but can have the odd moment.
They will be ridden by Leighton Aspell.
Got Away is looked after by Mila Lunackova, she will be led up by Quentin Leceour and she is ridden at home by Stefan Namesansky.
