31st January - Chepstow
Two runners today at Chepstow.
Keith has been in good order this winter and he has won his last two chases by fairly wide margins, he has been raised 18lbs for those two victories so obviously he will need to improve again.
For no apparent reason Keith just didn’t fire last season and he didn’t seem to enjoy jumping fences, we brought him back to hurdles and began over fences again this time and he’s been a revelation.
I always thought he was ok but he had become so frustrating he was even entered in a sale, maybe the thought of leaving Hotel Rhonehurst spurred him into action.
Keith can be a bit of a boy at times at home, he’s a lot better than he was but he has deposited Erin on the Mandown turf a few times over the last couple of years.
Shaun has run better than the form suggests in his two chases so far.
He needed his first outing here first time out and the track wasn’t ideal last time at Taunton, even more do when they took half of the fences out because of the low sun.
Shaun is a lazy horse at home therefore he is difficult to get fit which is why he tired so much on his seasonal reappearance, he sharpens up with racing.
Shaun has jumped well so far and more importantly he seems to enjoy fences, you can tell this by their demeanour after beginning their chasing career and he’s been bright and bubbly...not worried by the experience.
Shaun is a big lad, he’s not the sharpest knife in the draw but he is kind and good to ride.... everyone loves him.
They will be ridden by Leighton Aspell.
Both horses are looked after will be led up and are ridden at home by Erin Pringle, who will be very nervous!
