30th October - Wetherby
Two runners today at Wetherby.
Vinnie ran better than his position suggests at Market Rasen last time out, when finishing fourth.
It was a competitive truly run race and Vinnie didn’t miss a beat with his jumping, which was something that let him down last season, he was still travelling well turning into the home straight before the first three pulled away going to the last.
This was Vinnie’s third run in quick succession and Johnny felt he was just a little bit flat compared to his previous race where he bucked all the way to the start.
This is another big step up today but he’s got no weight and he deserves a chance at this level, he will want further once he completely relaxes but he’s not short of boot.
Vinnie is a highly strung type who can be strong on the gallops at home but he’s easy to deal with in his stable.
Cilaos was very disappointing last winter having won two novice hurdles the previous year.
There was no obviously reason but he did injure his pelvis after winning at Chepstow in April 2019, he was given plenty of time to recover from that before having a good summer out so it is possible that it continued to affect him even though the vets and physio could find no physical issues with him.
Cilaos has been a different horse this season at home, he’s much sharper in himself and his schooling has been very good, let’s hope whatever ailed him has rectified itself.
Cilaos is pretty chilled in his stable but he can be strong to ride on the gallops, Gracie who rides him out and Meg who rides Vinnie do well on these two as they are both fairly keen, especially on the grass.
They will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Vinnie is looked after, ridden at home and he will be led up by Megan Brown.
Cilaos is looked after, ridden at home and he will be led up by Gracie O’Reilly.
