26th March - Newbury
Three runners today at Newbury.
Bean is a little star who has been a revelation over fences since we fitted him with blinkers, he’s not dishonest but he was too deliberate over his obstacles previously.
Bean likes good ground so he has had a mid winter break in anticipation of a spring campaign, he has done plenty of work so he should be fit enough after his absence.
Bean is a happy horse, who enjoys his work.
He will be ridden by Brendan Powell.
Flash is another horse who likes good ground and his last outing in less than favourable conditions should be ignored.
Flash will always be remembered for being Leighton’s last winner for me, although at the time I didn’t know it, he showed a good attitude on that occasion but unfortunately he didn’t show the same resolve in two runs over fences this season.
There was nothing wrong with his jumping he just didn’t travel over fences like we know he can, I’m not completely ruling out a return to chasing at some stage but so far he doesn’t look as if he’s going to make a better chaser than hurdler.
Flash has also had a nice break since his last race in order to enjoy a spring campaign.
Flash was a bit of a lad when he was younger, he has settled down nowadays but he can still buck when he’s fresh.
Brummie pulled up early on at Haydock on his most recent outing, he was never going and he wasn’t a hundred percent right behind immediately afterwards.
He must have pulled a muscle because he was stiff and sore for a few days.
Brummie has been largely disappointing on a racecourse so I have fitted him with first time blinkers today, he’s a thorough stayer who is very lazy in his work and races.
He needs to show a bit more to warrant persevering with but he is still pretty unfurnished, if he strengthens up again through the summer he would probably make a better chaser over a trip.
Brummie wouldn’t want the ground to be too fast but there is rain forecast, I hope it comes after the other two have run though.
They will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Jersey Bean is looked after, will be led up and is ridden at home by Gracie O’Reilly.
Manning Estate is looked after, will be led up and is ridden at home by Flora Alessandroni.
Brummie Boys is looked after by Lenka Helmecka, he will be led up Gracie and he is ridden at home by Stefan Namesansky.
