23rd April - Perth
Two runners today at Perth.
If you ignore his last run where he found Taunton too sharp on good ground Monkey has been pretty consistent this season.
Monkey won first time out at Fontwell and he put up a brave performance that day, he looked beaten at the last fence but really stayed on well to grind out a win.
He’s a horse that prefers decent ground so during the winter months we have go to the courses where he will get better conditions but they don’t always play to his staying strengths and even though this track will be sharp enough for him the extra distance will help him with that.
Monkey is a cheeky character who doesn’t always over exert himself but you can’t help but like him.
Cossack has been frustrating, he works really nicely at home yet he doesn’t show that same speed or level of form on a racecourse for whatever reason.
He did have a wind operation before his last run but I would ignore that race at Sandown where the ground was desperate and he couldn’t handle conditions at all, hopefully this better ground and a step up in trip will bring about the necessary improvement.
Cossack is a very good looking horse who is generally easy to deal with.
They will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Monkey Puzzle is looked after, will be led up and he is ridden at home by Beth Dutton.
Cossack Dancer is looked after and will be led up by Marcel Danihel, he is ridden at home by Megan Brown.
