Saturday Ascot.

Sevarano has had a great start to his chasing career with two wins from three starts over fences so far.

Steve slipped going into the first at Newbury on his last outing, it completely unnerved him for the remainder of the race and as a result he couldn’t get into the same rhythm he had in his previous races.

Brendan said he could see the skid marks on the ground in front of the fence on the following circuit, even though it wasn’t exactly a mistake novices are going to learn how to handle these things and the main thing is he’s continued to school well at home.

Steve has had a good break since that run and he’s good and fresh today, he’s won on soft ground before so conditions should be fine.

Steve is a tall rangey horse who is easy to deal with and he’s lazy to ride at home.

Republican has run nicely in two races this season when beginning his chasing career, his jumping was exceptionally good on both occasions.

He finished second last time out at Fontwell when trying to concede two stone to the winner, who has gone on to win and be placed since, but he came back from that race pretty tired and we’ve given him a good long break to recover fully.

Republican is a horse with a bright future over fences but I didn’t want to lose his novice certificate at this stage of the season so he is reverting to hurdles for this spring and I don’t intend to over race him with a view to the future.

Republican loves his jumping and he’s been schooling well back over hurdles, he’s very fresh and well at home so I’m glad he’s back to his best.

Republican is a very honest kind horse who is usually good to ride but he can whip around quickly especially on the schooling ground.

Lady won nicely first time out at Ludlow before finishing third in a listed bumper at Cheltenham, that was in similar conditions to today so ground shouldn’t be a problem.

After her last run at Huntingdon where she was too keen she was found to be in season, I can’t categorically claim that’s why she was disappointing but Amy said she was much buzzier that day in the preliminaries so I’m hoping it was the case.

Jersey Lady is a straightforward mare to deal with at home, she’s good to ride but can be keen when she’s fresh.

They will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.

Sunday Uttoxeter.

Bringthehousedown or Joey has only had one run since joining me because he’s a nightmare to train, he’s got big very flat feet and he’s constantly bruising his soles, pulling off shoes or banging his joints so I rarely get a clear run with him and he spends a lot of time in the equine pool.

My farrier Ben spends more time with Joe than he does with his wife and dreads Stefan (my head lad) coming back from the downs without a front shoe on, a regular occurrence unfortunately.

Joey ran ok on his hurdling debut, after bulldozing his way through the first couple of hurdles he got the hang of things, then his jumping was fine until he got to the last flight which he met all wrong at a time he was tiring after being off the track for so long.

It’s been another 177 days since then and his owners have the patience of saints so I hope he can repay their faith at some stage.

He’s bound to improve for this outing on this ground after such a layoff but I’m just happy to get him back on the track.

Joe is a kind honest horse, all he wants to do is please.

He will be ridden by Kai Lenihan.

Pebbly ran well first time out at Hereford when finishing third, it was his first outing for eighteen months and only his second ever race so there’s going to be a lot of improvement in him.

Pebbly is a big horse who is going to be a cracking staying chaser once he’s gained some racing experience, I’ve given him plenty of time to recover from that race and the conditions and trip today should be perfect for him.

Pebbly is a gentle horse who is easy to ride and deal with.

He will be ridden by Harry Beswick.

Sevarano is looked after and will be led up by Tom Britten, he is ridden at home by Andy Llewellyn.

Republican is looked after and will be led up by Lenka Helmecka, he is ridden at home by Cameron Baker.

Jersey Lady is looked after and will be led up by Gracie O’Reilly who shares riding her at home with Mila Lunackova.

Bringthehousedown is looked after by Kai Lenihan, he will be led up and is ridden at home by Stefan Namesansky.

Pebbly New Moon is looked after and will be led up by Marcel Danihel, he is ridden at home by either Harry Beswick or Gracie O’Reilly.
