16th December - Uttoxeter
Three runners today at Uttoxeter.
11.40am Havanella runs in a mares novice hurdle over 2m 6f.
Havanella won a point to point in Ireland before we bought her and because she’s a staying type of filly she was ridden prominently first time out in a bumper at Ffos Las, with hindsight it didn’t really work out on such testing ground and she finished well beaten.
With its long home straight and usually bottomless ground Ffos Las can be a demanding track for youngsters but Alfie wasn’t hard on her once beaten and she came back from there fine.
Havanella can be quite a buzzy filly to ride and I hope she relaxes early on today, she is an athletic horse who usually jumps well.
12.50pm Ballaquane runs in a maiden hurdle over 2m 4f.
Ballaquane has had one run in a bumper when a fast finishing second at Wetherby, he was very green on that occasion and once the penny dropped in the last furlong he flew.
Unfortunately when he went home for the summer he picked up an injury whilst out at grass which forced him to miss last season.
Ballaquane is a tall good looking horse who has ability, his schooling has been good and he’s done plenty of work but because he’s so fresh he might be a bit gassy early on so he’s sure to improve for the outing.
1.25pm Brummie Boys runs in a handicap chase over 2m 4f.
Brummie won his last race, a handicap hurdle at Southwell, he looked beaten two out but he ran on strongly to the line. That was encouraging to see as previously he’d not always looked the most resolute in his races but to be fair to him he has always looked a physically weak horse.
Brummie looks much stronger this season, he’s held his condition well and he’s finally filled his frame.
Brummie has schooled fairly well at home, he can be very good one minute and clumsy the next, this is his first chase so it will be interesting to see if chasing is going to be his game.
Brummie was once quite naughty to ride at home but like most Flemensfirth’s he’s settled down with age.
Havanella and Brummie Boys will be ridden by Jonathan Burke, Ballaquane will be ridden by Daryl Jacob.
Havanella is looked after and will be led up by Shannon Passotti, she is ridden at home by Alfie Jordan.
Ballaquane is looked after and will be led up by Megan Brown, he is ridden at home by Charlie Mann.
Brummie Boys is looked after and will be led up by Louie Wicks who also rides him at home.
