16th October - Wetherby
One runner today at Wetherby.
4.35pm Monkey Puzzle runs in a handicap hurdle over 3m.
Monkey appeared to lose his action shortly before the line last time out at Warwick when he was a fast finishing second.
Leighton jumped off him immediately after crossing the line as a precaution but Monkey was never actually lame.
He had iced boots put on as soon as possible, something we always do when they run on ground faster than good to soft and the next morning he was fine.
We have had no issues with him since.
Monkey will enjoy this step up in trip, it’s his first attempt at 3m, and he loves decent ground.
He’s a half brother to Presenting Percy and I can’t wait to send him chasing but I haven’t had a clear run with him yet so I’m probably going to put that on hold now until the spring because of his need for better ground and his sensible handicap mark.
Monkey is a bit of a plonker at home, there’s no harm in him but he does love to mess around on the downs....
He will be ridden by Leighton Aspell.
Monkey is looked after by Beth Dutton who also usually rides him at home but due to a freak accident where Monkey tripped up and trod on her ankle she’s off work at the moment so he will be led up by Nikola Studena and he is ridden at home now by Clare Robinson.
The runners from yesterday are fine, Manning Estate is a little bit stiff but he’s bright in himself.
