13th November - Southwell
Four runners today at Southwell.
Book showed initial promise as a youngster but he has become frustrating.
He won a chase at Warwick last December under a great front running ride from Leighton, he had the run of the race that day and he got into a lovely rhythm, it was probably his gold cup.
He then pulled up in two competitive chases after that.
This ground may be a tad lively for Book but with limited opportunities at the moment and his preference for a small field he’s going to take his chance.
He will be ridden by Brendan Powell.
Monkey won first time out at Fontwell putting up a brave performance and really grinding out the win.
He then finished third in a slowly run race at Exeter, Monkey had to make his own running that day which doesn’t suit him he’s very lazy in front and looks around everywhere, he was beaten quite a long way but the first two were decent horses.
He’s been in good form at home since, he’s won around here before and he’ll love the ground
Monkey is a bit of a character at home, a loveable rogue.
Tim is a big good looking horse by Malinas who finished third in a point to point before being purchased by Dominic Burke and Tim Syder.
The form of that point to point has held up really nicely, even the horse that finished last has since won a novice hurdle at Uttoxeter.
Tim is a very good jumper who still has some strengthening up to do and you won’t see the best of him until he goes chasing.
He is a gentle giant at home, he’s not the brightest but he’s honest and willing, you can’t help but like him.
Le Boulevardier had good bumper form but he hasn’t transferred that to hurdles so far, unseating at the first on his debut and then not facing the first time blinkers last time out at Market Rasen.
There is no doubt he has a mind of his own but he also has ability, we’ll give him a couple more runs to see if we can find a key then we’ll regroup with his owners and decide his future.
Le Boulevardier is a playboy at home but there’s no harm in him.
Monkey Puzzle and Le Boulevardier are wearing first time cheek pieces.
They will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Book Of Gold is looked after by Jan Soldan, he will be led up by Lenka Helmecka and he is ridden at home by Gracie O’Reilly and Josh Apiafi.
Monkey Puzzle is looked after, will be led up and is ridden at home by Beth Dutton.
A Time To Shine is looked after and he will be led up by Flora Alessandroni, he is ridden at home by Tom Britten.
