13th &14th March - Sandown, Hereford & Warwick
After finishing second first time out Murphy went on to win his next two races, qualifying for this race in the process.
He’s a very busy horse who takes no work so we then decided to give him a break specifically with this race in mind.
He went away for a couple of weeks to stay with Chris & Clairey Bonner, they run a breaking and pre training yard nearby and they do a great job with all of my youngsters.
I thought it would do him good mentally to get away from the yard and also Clairey did a lot of ground work with him to get him to use himself properly and also to realise he didn’t have to do everything flat out.
Murphy is pretty gassy but very likeable and honest in his work, he enjoys his jumping.
Vinnie has shown plenty of ability in his races but he’s been inconsistent which is infuriating because he has looked good particularly when winning at Uttoxeter three runs ago.
Since his last race at Wetherby, when he ran flat, he has been treated for ulcers and I can’t say it caused him to run below par that day but because they can’t speak and you know they have ability you have to cover all options and hope to find the key.
Vinnie has had a good break, he’s fresh and well and I’m happy with him, I hope the ground rides on the better side because even though he’s won on soft ground I don’t think he really enjoys it.
Vinnie is a busy horse at home who takes no work to get fit, he likes to get on with things and he can be strong on the gallops.
They will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Even though Joey was only sixth on his last start at Uttoxeter I was sort of happy enough, he is a horse that will probably fare better once he’s handicapped.
Joey is a difficult horse to train, he’s got very flat feet which need constant attention from my farrier Ben Wishart who has created special shoes for him and it goes to show team work is everything because without Ben we would not have got this far.
Joey is an honest horse that just wants to please and I really want him to do well for my head lad Stefan and Ben because of the work they’ve put into him and also for his patient owners who have persevered ????
He will be ridden by Kai Lenihan.
Warwick 3.42pm A Time To Shine runs in a handicap chase over 3m 5f.
Tim was places in a point to point in Ireland before we bought him and he then went on to finish third in two hurdle races.
He’s a huge rangy horse that is an exceptional jumper and hurdles almost seemed to small for him so we sent him chasing last time out at Hereford where he was a fast finishing second, he only made one mistake and unfortunately it was two out otherwise he would probably have beaten the winner.
Hereford was sharp enough for him, I think he’d prefer a much more galloping track, Warwick is all about jumping and this is over another four furlongs which should suit him.
Tim is a gentle giant at home and he’s good to ride.
He will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Ocean Drifter is looked after and will be led up by Beth Dutton, he is ridden at home by Kai Lenihan.
Vinnie The Hoddie is looked after, will be led and is ridden at home by Megan Brown.
Bringthehousedown is looked after by Kai Lenihan, he is ridden at home and will be led up by Stefan Namesansky.
A Time To Shine is looked after and will be led up by Flora Alessandroni, he is ridden at home by Tom Britten.
