13th January - Leicester & Plumpton
Leicester 1.10pm Cilaos Glace runs in a novice handicap chase over 2m.
Cilaos ran well on his seasonal debut when finishing second at Wetherby in October.
He jumped right on occasions for no apparent reason but his jumping was basically good, and he was entitled to get a little tired on the run in after a seven month break since his previous outing.
Cilaos never really fired last season and even at home he didn’t show the same level of work as the previous year, he is a horse that has had his share of problems and even though we found nothing seriously amiss something was obviously bothering him.
Unfortunately his niggles resurfaced after his Wetherby race, hence the long gap since then.
Cilaos is a very good looking horse who is strong to ride on the gallops, he generally works very nicely and so far he has schooled much better this season than last.
He will be ridden by Brendan Powell.
Plumpton 2.30pm Weststreet runs in a veteran’s handicap chase over 3m 2f.
Westreet finished fourth on his only completed run this season at Bangor, it was over an inadequate trip (3m) but the ground was his favoured soft and there were no other opportunities for him at that time.
Westreet is a thorough stayer who usually jumps well, he would prefer as much rain as possible to turn this into a proper slog otherwise the track over this trip might be on the sharp side for him.
Westreet is a sweet horse who can be a bit nervous at times, he is generally good to ride but he can occasionally get lit up and be very strong.
He will be ridden by Harry Beswick.
Cilaos Glace is looked after, will be led up and he is ridden at home by Gracie O’Reilly.
Westreet is looked after and he will be led up by Tom Britten, he is ridden at home by Amy Deans or Stefan Namesansky.
