11th December - Hereford & Doncaster
Two runners today.
Hereford 12.47pm Methody runs in a novice hurdle over 2m 4f.
Methody has only had one run to date, a bumper at Worcester, where he finished fourth on pretty horrible rain softened ground.
When Methody crossed the line that day Johnny thought he had gone wrong and jumped off him immediately, it turned out that he’d pulled one of his front shoes off and the other was twisted and hanging off.
This was obviously uncomfortable but fortunately there was no damage to his legs from the twisted plate because that can be nasty.
He’s only a four year old so I gave him time to recover from that race and I also wanted to get plenty of schooling into him including getting him on grass, which we have done finally over the last two weeks.
Methody is a kind horse to deal with unless you are trying to brush him or clip him and then he’d kick you, he’s good to ride, pretty laid back.
He will be ridden by Katie O’Farrell.
Doncaster 1.30pm Jersey Lady runs in a mares handicap hurdle over 3m.
Jersey Lady finished third against the boys last time out at Wincanton.
I was delighted with that run because her jumping was so much better than her first hurdle race, which she won, where she lost her confidence after being hampered.
Jersey Lady is from a stout staying family, her half brother Burrow Saint won the Irish Grand National a couple of years ago, so she should appreciate this step up in trip today now she’s learnt to relax in her races.
Jersey Lady is fairly straightforward to deal with and she was once strong on the gallops but Beth has done a good job with her and she’s more settled now.
She will be ridden by Tom Bellamy.
Methody is looked after, will be led up and he is ridden at home by Megan Brown.
