Two runners today at Newbury.

Minella is reverting to hurdles as there are no suitable chases for him to run in because of his rating and the fact he has to go left handed.

Minella is a horse with tons of ability who could be very good if he wasn’t prone to belting the odd fence.

He has done tons of schooling including show jumping with Laura Collet under the tutelage of Yogi Breisner and plenty over our fences at home....but he still seems to have lapses in concentration.

Minella was disappointing at Ayr on his final run of last season, it was a very competitive race on decent ground, they went a good gallop and he could never get into any sort of rhythm so pulled up.

“Nelly”(as Gracie calls him) is a very big, good looking horse who has been working nicely at home, he’s in good order and is ready to roll.

With that name there was no option but to call him Gavin, this will be his first race.

Gavin is a sweet horse who can worry and boil over at times, he’s not a horse that has done too much galloping upsides because it would blow his brains. We’ve gone quietly with him and he is now ready to run so we’ll see how he handles it all.

He’s a thorough galloper, very honest and willing with a lovely gentle nature.

I hope he enjoys the experience, confidence will do him the power of good.

They will be ridden by Leighton Aspell.

Nelly is looked after, will be led up and is ridden at home by Gracie O’Reilly.

Gavin is looked after by Harry Beswick and will also be led up by Gracie, he is ridden at home by Alex Bell.
