Two runners today at Newbury.

1.50pm Book Of Gold runs in a beginners chase over 2m 6f.
Book has been a fairly consistent performer to date until his last two runs last season but I think he was just feeling the effects of several races on his favoured heavy ground by then.
Book is a one paced horse that has always looked as if he would make a better chaser than hurdler.

This is a competitive race but with only six runners it’s a good opportunity to get him jumping fences in public without too much hurly burly, plus Newbury fences are big but they are well presented and fair.

Book would ideally prefer softer ground than this but really soft ground is harder to jump out of, so if he has a good clear round I will be happy and it gives me something to work with.

Book is a big, good looking son of Flemensfirth, he can be a bit of a boy when he’s fresh but once he’s in full work he settles down.

2.55pm Jersey Bean runs in a pertemps qualifier over 3m.
Bean was very brave at Market Rasen when making all to win in good style, he jumped very well and really battled up the straight once taken on to win going away.
He enjoyed the good ground that day which he didn’t really get last winter, hence the improvement.
This step up in trip should suit him and he’s been in cracking form since winning, full of beans (excuse the pun??) and his confidence is sky high.

Again this is a competitive race but you don’t get easy races at Newbury and the first six home in this race will be eligible to be entered for the final at the Cheltenham Festival.

Bean thinks he’s Jack The Lad at home, he’s cheeky but not nasty.

They will be ridden by Leighton Aspell.

Book is looked after and will be led up by Erin Pringle, he is ridden at home by Elle Lloyd.
Bean is looked after, will be led up and is ridden at home by Gracie O’Reilly.
