Three runners today at Taunton.

1.05pm The Groovy Hoovy runs in a novice hurdle over 2m.
Groovy ran better than the bare form suggests at Southwell on his debut over hurdles, I went there for better ground and it rained all day.
He travelled well into the race before not getting home, that was over half a mile further and Leighton was not hard on him once he was beaten.

I am slightly concerned about the ground for him but the conditions here don’t tend to be as bad as at some other courses during a wet spell.
He is a six year old and I want to get some experience into him, I think he’s a horse that will improve with racing.

Groovy is so laid back at home, he’s horizontal, he has a cheeky nature but he is tough and he is the sort of horse that will only work as well as the horse he goes with, he just does what he has to and no more.

2.15pm Broughtons Rhythm runs in a novice handicap chase over 2m 2f.
This will be his first run over fences and only his third run for me, he was placed at Fontwell in his most recent race.
I’m still learning about Broughtons but one thing he does show me is plenty of scope when he’s schooling.
My head lad Stefan has done a good job with him, he was very buzzy and sweaty when he first arrived, he is much more relaxed now which is good because he’s not a horse that carries much condition.

Broughtons a big horse who works nicely at home.

3.25pm Royalraise runs in a handicap chase over 3m.
Royalraise has always shown better form on good ground but he has run well here twice in softish conditions so I’m hoping he can do the same again today.

Royalraise is a good jumper, he often overjumps and because he carries his head quite high he can look awkward but the jockeys say he doesn’t feel it.
Royalraise has come up against some decent horses in his hurdling days including being second to Might Bite, it is amazing when you look back through a horses form sometimes to see what they’ve bumped into.

Royalraise is sweet horse to do anything with though he can be strong on the gallops.

They will be ridden by Leighton Aspell.

The Groovy Hoovy is looked after and ridden at home by Hannah Benson, he will be led up by Peter Macek who looks after Royalraise and will also lead him up.
Royalraise is ridden at home by Elle Lloyd.
Broughtons Rhythm is looked after and will be led up by Pavla Zgarbova, he is ridden at home by Stefan Namesansky.
