3rd December - Exeter
One runner today at Exeter.
1.30pm Walk In The Wild runs in a novice handicap hurdle over 2m 5f.
Wilfred finished tailed off at Fontwell on his first outing of the season which was obviously very disappointing but he had a valid excuse.
Shortly after the start when they move from grass to all weather on the top bend, it seemed to surprise Wilfred and he jumped onto it landing awkwardly.
Watching it at home I thought he’d gone wrong …James looked down immediately but he didn’t know the horse so it was a difficult decision to pull up that early on…When a horse is full of adrenaline it’s not always easy to tell unless they are hopping, so I don’t blame James at all.
It clearly affected his performance and he began to lose ground soon after.
Wilfred was lame for a few days afterwards, fortunately it was only muscular so Michelle (my physio) got to work on him and he’s been fine since.
Wilfred is an enormous horse who will make up into a nice chaser next season when he’s strengthened up fully, he’s not a flashy horse but he is a thorough galloper who usually jumps well.
He will be ridden by Jonathan Burke.
Walk In The Wild is looked after and will be led up by Marcel Danihel, he is ridden at home by Harry Brown.
